Williamsburg, Virginia, September 2006 – Newport Hospitality, based in Williamsburg Virginia, recently expanded its Savannah portfolio. Founded in 1990 by William Carey and Michael Pleninger, the company operates hotels across eastern United States. In addition to the Hampton Inn North, it has acquired management of the Country Inn & Suites North and The Thunderbird Inn.
THE THUNDERBIRD INN, built in 1964 as a classic roadside motel, was purchased and totally rebuilt by local business men. Jerry Salecker, the new General Manager, has over nine years of hospitality experience, three of those with Newport. When asked what he hopes to bring to the Thunderbird, Jerry stated, “My goal is to get the job done right and continually exceed the expectations of our guests. Jerry loves the historic district and is intent on sampling the menu of every restaurant in the area.
