As Senior Vice President of Development for Newport Hospitality Group, Fred brings over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry as a developer, owner and operator. Graduating from the University of Missouri, Fred spent five years with Sheraton in various sales and marketing positions, including Director of Sales at a 650-room Sheraton in Atlanta and as Southeastern Corporate Regional Sales Manager. While working for Sheraton, Fred was also an instructor of hotel sales and marketing in the hotel administration program at Georgia State University.
Fred was co-owner and chief operating officer for Allen-White, Inc. based out of Greenville, North Carolina, where he supervised operations for 12 hotels under four different franchises. Additionally, Fred was managing general partner for Sunbelt Properties, directing the development of five Hardee’s restaurants in Central Florida.
Fred’s quintessential trait is that he has an unsurpassed ability to market a hotel through direct sales. Properties that he manages always outperform their markets in both revenue and occupancy, all while yielding excellent operating margins. His specific methodology for sales and marketing – as well as his exemplary results – have helped set the tone for NHG’s success.
In his spare time, Fred enjoys traveling with his wife who is often jokingly referred to by friends as ‘Saint Betty’ for having put up with Fred for all these years! With both kids already out of the house and working on their own careers, Fred reads, hikes, enjoys watching college football and basketball games, and occasionally plays something that only slightly resembles a decent game of tennis.
